New York — Canada is not our enemy; Canada is our neighbor, ally, and long-standing partner. At a time when the relationship between the United States and Canada faces political and economic challenges, U.S. leaders should approach every issue with pragmatism, diplomacy, and a proper understanding of our mutual interests.
I believe that all matters concerning Canada should be viewed through a pragmatic and diplomatic lens by President Donald Trump and his administration. Strong leadership means protecting America’s national interests and sovereignty while simultaneously acknowledging the importance of cooperation with our closest neighbors.
The United States and Canada share a long border, deep economic ties, strong cultural bonds, and extensive cooperation across various sectors—ranging from trade and energy to security and public safety. While differences of opinion between governments are natural, such disagreements need not turn a neighbor into an enemy.
America must remain united in protecting its national interests while upholding peace, stability, and mutual respect. Diplomacy can coexist with tough negotiation; there is no need to sacrifice our friendship with Canada to safeguard American interests.
President Trump has the opportunity to demonstrate that strength and diplomacy can complement each other. A stable and respectful relationship between the United States and Canada benefits not only both nations but the entire North American region.
Canada is our neighbor—not an enemy. Therefore, we should move forward based on pragmatism, responsible leadership, diplomacy, and mutual respect.
