Seventeen universities from New Jersey have been included in the inaugural ‘America’s Best Colleges 2026–2027’ list published by the US magazine *TIME*, with four of them ranking in the top 100. Princeton University secured the 4th spot nationally, followed by Stevens Institute of Technology at 30th, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) at 95th, and The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) at 99th.
Ranking Details
A total of 500 institutions were evaluated for this *TIME* ranking, with scores assigned based on three key criteria: student outcomes, learning environment, and institutional appeal. Princeton University achieved an overall score of 93.50, comprising 94.35 for student outcomes, 85.10 for learning environment, and 99.67 for appeal. Stevens Institute of Technology, NJIT, and TCNJ received overall scores of 85.17, 78.29, and 77.80, respectively.
Other New Jersey Universities
Beyond the top 100, thirteen other New Jersey universities made the list, including Montclair State University, Rutgers University, Saint Peter’s University, Ramapo College, Stockton University, Rowan University, Drew University, Monmouth University, Seton Hall University, Kean University, William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Felician University.
Reactions
Various New Jersey universities have expressed enthusiasm regarding their positions in this ranking. Drew University announced that it secured the top spot among all New Jersey institutions in the ‘Learning Environment’ category. Saint Peter’s University stated on social media that it ranked 7th in the state and secured a place among top-tier institutions nationally.
